State Fish Results

Thank you for voting! After a multi-year process we are proud to announce that the fish selected by membership for recommendation as the official state fish of Iowa is the Iowa Darter, Etheostoma exile. The Iowa Darter won while receiving 51% of first-choice votes, Bluegill, Lepomis macrochirus came in second with 32%. Membership also preferred having only one state fish with 65% voting for the single fish option. The next step includes composing a formal recommendation letter highlighting the merits of the Iowa Darter. If you are interested in aiding with this please reach out to an Iowa AFS Excom member.
